Two houses shaped by Spanish heritage intersect in a collaboration that reflects shared values of technique, form, and artistry.

Balenciaga’s pre-fall 2026 collection includes an unexpected creative exchange with Manolo Blahnik, marking a meeting point between two design legacies that have shaped modern craftsmanship. The project brings together Blahnik, Balenciaga’s creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli, and the enduring influence of Cristóbal Balenciaga, forming a conversation grounded in shared cultural roots and a precise understanding of construction.
“Don Cristóbal Balenciaga is, to me, the ultimate designer. I have adored his work for as long as I can remember.” - Manolo Blahnik
The collaboration features three shoe styles developed from pieces selected by Piccioli from Blahnik’s archive. Each silhouette reflects the houses’ mutual attention to proportion and clarity of line: a low-heeled mule and a slingback available with either a 105 mm or 50 mm heel. All styles are crafted in silk satin — a material long associated with Blahnik — and presented in several colour variations, each finished with a Balenciaga-grey lining.

A defining element of the collection is the crystal embroidery tracing the low-cut vamp. The detailing echoes Blahnik’s long-standing fascination with embellishment and references both archival Manolo designs and jewellery created at the Balenciaga house in the 1960s. The cut of the shoe exposes the foot in a way that aligns with Piccioli’s focus on the human form and its role in shaping silhouette.
“As a Mediterranean boy myself, I have always felt a deep connection to his Spanish culture and sensibility. To be partnering with Balenciaga, and with Pierpaolo, fulfills a lifelong dream. Pierpaolo’s direction for Balenciaga resonates profoundly with my own ideas of how the modern woman should dress in 2026, a vision of timeless elegance rooted in craftsmanship and enduring beauty.” - Manolo Blahnik
For Blahnik, the collaboration carries deep personal resonance. He describes Cristóbal Balenciaga as “the ultimate designer” and speaks about the cultural affinity he has felt toward the house since childhood. Piccioli’s current direction at Balenciaga, he notes, aligns with his own understanding of how women should dress in 2026 — an approach anchored in craftsmanship and quiet, intentional elegance.

Kristina Blahnik, CEO of the brand, highlights the project as an example of what happens when heritage becomes a framework for innovation. The exchange between the two houses underscores how archival knowledge, when revisited through contemporary design decisions, can result in pieces that feel grounded yet distinctly modern.
The collaboration adds to Manolo Blahnik’s history of working across diverse creative worlds — from artists and musicians to global fashion houses — while strengthening Balenciaga’s dialogue with craftsmanship as a central pillar of the brand’s evolution.
